Technical FAQ

The J3400 standard utilizes high-voltage mechanical contactors within the vehicle to dynamically route current from the two main power pins. When an AC signal is detected, it routes to the onboard charger. When a DC signal is negotiated via PLC, it routes directly to the battery pack. This eliminates redundant mechanical pins found in CCS.

Standard heavy-gauge copper cables used in DC fast charging typically reach thermal limits around 200 Amperes continuously. To push 350A or 500A, dielectric coolant must be pumped through the cable jacket to maintain safe handling temperatures per IEC 61851 limits.

While CCS2 dominates Europe and J3400 is adopting in North America, CHAdeMO (specifically ChaoJi/CHAdeMO 3.0) remains the standardized architecture in Japan and heavily influences deployment in parts of Asia. It is also historically the most proven standard for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) bi-directional applications.
